All forms of numerology are based on the concept that all words can be reduced, to representational numbers and that these numbers, if necessary, can be further reduced to a single digit. Numerology believers claim that every single digit (that is, numbers 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8 and 9) is ruled by a planet and therefore "vibrates" on individual planes and impart certain characteristics.

Numerology is thus a question of discovering your personal number and then knowing what each number represents. There are several methods of doing this, and three main versions are given in this chapter.

It is of interest to note that there are many people who be­lieve that a change of number will actually effect a change of personality! Bizarre as this theory may seem at first, it does bear second thoughts when one considers what a simple change of name has done for some people.

ONE

One is the Sun-ruled singular, indicating a positive polar­ity and total independence. Leadership qualities are very much present, coupled with a desire to be the one in front. You do not like competition. However, you are generous with those who will follow you. You are ambitious and en­thusiastic, but there are times when your aggressive and dom­ineering nature can be too stiff and dogmatic in its point of view, making you unwilling (although not unable) to see the other side (somebody else's side) of the question at hand. You may also have a tendency to be impatient, even reckless attunes. October and November are the decisive months of the year for you. You can be extravagant with your money and in your behavior, but when bold and decisive steps need to be taken, yours is the leadership and the courage required.

TWO

Two is the number that belongs to the Moon. Its polarity is negative and it is feminine in nature. Whether man or woman, you are diplomatic and adaptable to both people and places, and you are most understanding and sympathetic to other people's problems. At the very least, you will always appear to be thus on the surface, although there are times that you feel cold and removed inside. Autumn is the best time of year for you, be it to make decisions or to handle those deep streaks of moodiness which sometimes assail you. You are home-loving and patient; you always desire fair judgment to be rendered in all circumstances and to every­one. There is a streak of egotism in your nature often than not, you hide it from the outside world.

THREE

Positive and negative harmonize in this number, and Jupi­ter reigns over the qualities of affection and generosity. The duality can be seen between the happy-go-lucky exterior and the emotional, sometimes melancholy interior of your nature. Nonetheless, you are self-confident, and deservedly so. You are quickly enthusiastic about projects, but you need constant excitement to have the project keep your interest all the way through. You are original of thought and enjoy novelty and originality generally. The high summer is your best time; you are extremely social and your range of interests is wide, if not always very deep. The field of publicity will attract you and you would be good at it—or in any similar showy and excit­ing environment.

FOUR

Cautious and precise, a person whose Mystic Number is four may well achieve great personal fortune. If you are a four, you are very self-disciplined and you seldom approve of spendthrift methods of living. Duty and the carrying out of duty appeal to you; it also appeals to the methodical side of your nature. You are a builder,' be it of houses or of a fortune—an amasser,' a collector of value. Perhaps because growth is attractive to you, spring is your best season. You make a good executive in the conservative vein. There are times when a sarcastic manner can be yours, and you have a tendency to be jealous. However, you are too inhibited to let either aspect of your character disturb your essential control for too long. Saturn is the planet that rules over four.

FIVE

Five is sociable, quick, and changeable, a representative in all ways of its ruling planet, Mercury. If this is your num­ber, you are fun to be with most of the time, but you are capricious; in some instances, you can be unexpectedly harsh. You are carefree by nature, inconsistent in both your likes and your dislikes. April and May are the best months in the year for you, and your bright mentality will do well in one of the fields of communications, or the tourist industry. You have a talent for organizing things, be it the menu for a party or work-space in a studio. Chances are you left home when very young and have always been independent of thought and opinion.

SIX

A six-person is romantic, ruled by Venus. Artistic by na­ture, you love your home and shine in beautifying it with your creative talents, although you often have a career in the arts as well. You are gentle in manner, sometimes possibly deceptively so. People might think you are easy to sway because of your mild exterior — but they would soon find themselves to be much mistaken. You are rock-like in your stand on your convictions, steadfast in- -your affections. Se­curity in life appeals to you, and winter, your best season, is also your favorite. At times you may suffer from twinges of envy and, surprisingly, you can sometimes be rude in argu­ment. You are philosophical in most things, lucky with money and black is the color that favors your fortune.

SEVEN

If you are a seven, you are also deceptive, but in a dif­ferent way than six. Seven is stubborn and self-assertive on the outside, masking a great warmth of heart and unusual consideration. You have high and lofty ideals, but you will seldom preach about them, preferring to try and work quietly in their direction. You are modest and independent. In work, you will often achieve great success although you start off with typically seven-like modesty. Early spring is the best time of year for you and yellow and brown are your colors. Uranus is the planet that rules over seven, making you high­ly-strung emotionally. The fields of aviation and television are among those in which you would be successful.

EIGHT

Eight have great courage and personal bravery and is well suited to heroics in war. Society's nuances are not for you; you prefer things, to be honest, and straightforward. When carried to extremes, this form of manner is somewhat insensitive to the feelings of others. You are aggressive and will persist at a task or a problem until it is done or solved. Yellow is your color, Mars the planet that rules eight and the middle of each season favors you and your life. You are not a homebody; if you are a woman, chances are you will opt for a lifetime career together with marriage since pure home-living bores you. However, you are fond of children and understanding of them.

NINE

Nine is Neptune's number, the number of human under­standing. You may well have a great tendency toward per­sonal sacrifice for the good of others. A career in the medical field or in social welfare often attracts people whose number is nine. Yellow is also your color, but usually in softer tones than eight's yellow. The season of the year that suits you best is late summer, July and August. Despite the gentleness in your nature, there is a really stubborn streak in you and, in some cases, you may be quite eccentric in your attitudes, although not necessarily vociferous about them. You have a deep appreciation of beautiful things, such as rare porce­lains and assorted objects d'art. You hide your occasional pessimism in hard work, and your capacity for patience is near legendary.
